The Foundry School is a Christian Discipleship Training Program that focuses on 3 Core Practices and builds on those in an effort to help the disciple walk in the reality of who they are through their faith in Jesus Christ. It is all about becoming more like Him. Just as in a foundry process in the natural world, the idea is expose the raw ingredients to the fire and then allow them to be shaped.
The 3 Core Practices we emphasize for every disciple to cultivate in their spiritual walks are;
1. Prayer
2. Worship
3. Regular Bible Study
These three practices serve as guard rails to help keep us on the path of life which is our faith in Jesus Christ. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. A life of prayer will not save us. Being diehard worshipers will not save us. Becoming Scholars of the Word will not save us. However, making these activities a normal part of our lives will help to place our hearts, minds and bodies in a place where they are much more likely to find rest and life in Jesus Christ.
It helps me to think of the 3 Core Practices as a greenhouse. Yes, plants will grow outside of one and they can even thrive, but there is a much higher success rate when plants get their start in an environment that protects, provides and propels them forward in Christ.
The greenhouse protects the young seedling from the elements of nature that would easily destroy their fragile lives. A life of prayer, worship and study will do the same for disciples young and old.
The greenhouse will also provide warmth and sunlight. Exposing ourselves to the light of God through the 3 Core Practices ensures healthy spiritual development.
Finally, the greenhouse will propel us forward for a life long journey of faith. Many plants get their start in a greenhouse and get a jump on the growing season. Plants begin to grow and thrive even in seasons that are inhospitable to such growth. So, being a strong Christian in the midst of a dark and broken world is much like growing spinach in December. Both are possible with the right practices.
